Destination Galdhøpiggen

Galdhøpiggen is the highest mountain in the Nordics with it’s 2469 m.a.s.l. Words are saying that Galdhøpiggen is more than a mountain; it is also the symbol of the relationship between the Norwegian and the mountains. In 1850 three men from Lom in Norway reached the summit and August 24th 2013 it was my turn.

Although the route Oslo – Beitostølen – Lom is around one hour longer, I wanted to experience Jotunheimen over Valdresflye. It was definitely worth it!

After around 5 hours and 30 min. drive I reached the starting location Spiterstulen located 1100 m.a.s.l. From Spiterstulen the hike up to the top of Galdhøpiggen is a rocky but achievable walk. On the way, you will reach two peaks over 2000 m.a.s.l., Svellnose (2272 m.) and Keilhaus topp (2355 m.).

The award reaching the top of Galdhøpiggen is a spectacular view and you can see 1/4 of Southern Norway.

The hike will take you around 4 hours up and 2,5 hours down.
